Timeline

Approximate Planning schedule leading up to the wedding and day of wedding.

12-6 months before

  • Attend engagement party

  • Register for wedding gifts

  • Contact wedding planner with requests, options, suggestions.

  • Figure out budget for the wedding

  • Make List of attendees

  • Reserve Venue(s), officiant, DJ/Band, Photographer, Videographer, Photobooth

 

5-2 Months

  • Buy wedding dress

  • Reserve tux rental

  • Pick bridal party - go with them for dress/ tux fittings

  • Reserve flowers

  • Purchase bridal accessories

  • Purchase items for wedding ceremony/reception (cake cutter, unity candle, guest book, etc.)

  • Attend menu tasting and decide on menu selections

 

1-2 Months Before

  • Attend bridal shower

  • Schedule hair, make-up, and nail appointments

  • Make centerpieces, favors, homemade paper-goods, etc.

 

2 Weeks Before

  • Attend bachelor & bachelorette parties

  • Preview list and purchase any last minute items for wedding

 

1 Week Before

  • Provide final count to venue of guests

  • Finalize seating chart for reception and order seating chart poster

 

2 Days Before

  • Drop off all reception favors, table centerpieces, cake knife, toasting goblets, candles, etc. at reception venue so they can be set up prior to reception

  • Confirm early meeting times with bridal party for the wedding day and rehersal

 

Day Before

  • Attend rehearsal & rehersal dinner

  • Groom pic up tux from rental shop

  • Give parents and attendents gifts at rehersal dinner

 

Day of Wedding (Prior to Ceremony)

  • Eat breakfast

  • Get hair and make-up done at salon

  • Relax

  • Family & candid pictures at home

 

Ceremony & Reception Breakdown

  • 3:45 – 4:00   Pre-Wedding Music / Guests Arrive (“Pachelbel’s Canon” – Johann Pachelbel)

  • 4:01–4:05   Groom and Best Man take positions ( "A Thousand Years" - Classical Instrumental (originally Christina Perri))

  • 4:05   Procession Begins (“Romeo and Juliet: Love Theme” - Arthur Fiedler and Boston Pops Orchestra) - Bridesmaids, Maid of Honor, Ring Bearer, Coin Bearer, Flower Girl

  • 4:10   Entrance of Bride (Wagner: Lohengrin / Act 3 - Prelude to Act III - Bridal Chorus)

  • 4:11   Bride and Father of the Bride Proceed

  • 4:15   All attendants turn toward Officiant to begin

  • 4:16   The Invocation by officiant

  • 4:18   The Scripture Lesson -- Book of Bible Chapter

  • 4:25   The Wedding Message

  • 4:30   Marriage vows, exchange rings, Declarations of marriage

  • 4:35   Officiant Pronounces Couple “Kiss Your Bride”'

  • 4:41   Lighting of the Unity Candle  ("Sleepers Awake!" - Bach)

  • 4:43   The Prayers

  • 4:45   The Lord's Prayer

  • 4:48   The Benediction

  • 4:50   Introduction of the Married Couple

  • 4:52   Recessional Music - Reverse order of Procession ("Wedding March" - Mendelssohn)

  • 4:55–5:15   Receiving Line

  • 5:16-5:45   Church Pictures

  • 6:00   Guests enter Cocktail Hour at venue (Beach Boys - Greatest Hits)

  • 6:15   Pictures with Couple, Attendants, and Parents

  • 6:50   Guests Begin To Enter Reception Hall for cocktail hour ("Crazy Little Thing Called Love" - Queen, "Beautiful Day" - U2, "Wouldn't It Be Nice" - The Beach Boys)

  • 7:00   Bridal Party Introductions ("I Believe in a Thing Called Love" - The Darkness)

  • 7:05  Mr. & Mrs. Announcement ("Just the Way You Are" - Bruno Mars)

  • 7:15   Best Man Toast

  • 7:30   Buffet - Style Dinner – Table by Table (Frank Sinatra - Greatest Hits)

  • 8:15   Dancing - Couple’s First Dance (“Somewhere Over the Rainbow” – Israel Kamakawiwo’ole)

  • 9:03   Bride/Father and Groom/Mother Dance ("God Only Knows" - The Beach Boys),

  • 9:06   Bride/Brother and Groom/Sister Dance ("I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack)

  • 9:30   Cake Cutting and Distribution ("I Got You Babe" - Sonny and Cher)

  • 10:00   Garter Removal and Toss (Mission Impossible Theme Song)

  • 10:05   Bouquet Toss ("One Way Or Another" – Blondie)

  • 10:55   Last Dance ("Don’t Stop Believin'" - Journey )

  • 11:00   Reception Ends, guests leave for home or after party

  • 11:15 - 2:00   After Party starts at Holiday Inn lobby area for cocktails

 

After the Wedding (if requested)

  • Drop off wedding dress at cleaners

  • Return Groom’s formalwear attire

  • Arrange for pressing of flowers

  • Send wedding announcement to the newspaper

  • Send thank you cards for gifts & sent out change of address cards

  • Ensure that Bride and Groom receive marriage license
